One Of Our Forest Fire Fighter Hero's Desperately Needs Our Help

...And that is incredibly difficult to watch happen to someone who has spent so much of his life helping everyone else; including me when I didn't even know him. He quite possibly saved my life, as a total stranger, at an incomprehensible dark time in life, and he saw it in my eyes instantly and I'm still here, likely very much because of him(opens in new tab).

Bill is one of the most resilient, compassionate, generous and hardworking people I've ever had the privilege of knowing. He isn't someone who asks for help. He isn't someone who complains about what life has dealt him. Even while dealing with this horrific condition, he continues to support and help other people whenever he can, asking absolutely nothing in return.

In fact, Bill didn't even tell me about his diagnosis until many months after the disease had already begun taking such a devastating toll on his life.

That's the kind of person he is.

A man who has always been there for others

I've personally experienced Bill's kindness and generosity firsthand.

Even during some of the most difficult periods of my own life, Bill continued checking in on me. He did it every day, without fail, even while he was dealing with his own immense physical pain, exhaustion and stress.

During the 2024 wildfire season, Bill was working seven days a week, sometimes for as many as 20 hours a day. During that same summer, he witnessed a friend and fellow firefighter become trapped and lose his life in the wildfire that devasted Jasper in 2024.

Yet somehow, despite everything he was experiencing himself, he still found the strength to make sure other people were okay.

That's Bill.

He has spent years being there for people when they needed help. Now, I believe it is our turn to be there for him.

He has nowhere else to turn

Bill has been totally denied financial assistance from both the provincial and federal governments and is now facing an incredibly serious financial crisis.

Because he cannot work, the bills continue to pile up. His medical situation has made earning an income virtually impossible, while the constant pain and inability to sleep have made an already devastating situation even worse.

He is dangerously close to losing everything.

Without OUR help, he is, not only risk of becoming homeless while he continues searching for medical treatment and specialists who may be able to provide some relief from this debilitating disease, but it's inevitable.

This isn't something I can simply sit back and watch happen.

A man who has repeatedly put his life on the line for other people shouldn't have to face losing his home and everything he owns simply because a devastating illness, that came out of the blue blue, has made it impossible for him to work and provide for himself and his family.

Now it's our turn to give back

For years, Canadians have watched wildfire fighters run toward situations that most of us would run away from.

Many of us have been directly and indirectly affected by wildfires. Others have watched helplessly as communities, homes, forests and wildlife have been threatened and/or destroyed.

We talk about how incredible these men and women are. We thank them for their courage. We recognize the risks they take.

But this is an opportunity to put those words into action.

Bill has been on the front lines of some of Canada's most devastating wildfires, including the massive fires in Fort McMurray and Jasper, numerous Okanagan fires, Saskatchewan and countless others across the country.

He has spent years protecting other people's lives, homes, property and priceless possessions.

And he has done so much more than fight wildfires.

He has spent his life helping people.

I've seen that firsthand, and I know I'm not the only person whose life has been positively affected by Bill.

Please help Bill before it's too late

Bill is one of those exceptionally rare people who genuinely cares about other people. He has a heart of gold, and despite everything he is enduring, he continues trying to help others.

I simply cannot and will not stand by idly and watch someone of his character and caliber be destroyed by an illness he did nothing to deserve.

The goal of this fundraiser is to help Bill maintain some basic quality of life while he continues battling trigeminal neuralgia and searching for effective medical treatment.

The money raised will go directly to Bill to help cover his living expenses, bills and medical costs. Most importantly, it will help prevent him from losing everything and, most likely,  ending up homeless while he fights his way through this nightmare.
